Purpose

We want to spread the awareness of the unique nature of the Pacific Northwest, where people have always blazed their own trails. We hold that it is once again time to consider our commonwealth, to speak for a sustainable future separate from the suicidal path of environmental, spiritual and societal destruction inherent in the rise of the corporate state.

Pants On Fire

Here’s Chimpy at the press conference yesterday, still claiming that Iran is our greatest threat, despite Monday’s revelation of the National Intelligence Estimate that said Iran gave up on its nuclear weapons program in 2003.

According to Seymour Hersh (the video above), the White House has had the final version of this NIE since August at least, and had preliminary versions of it for over a year. So knowing this, why did they do all this saber-rattling all year? Other than to jack oil prices up to $100 a barrel, say…

Bush, 10/17/07 - "So I’ve told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon. I take the threat of Iran with a nuclear weapon very seriously."

Cheney, 10/21/07 - “Our country, and the entire international community, cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its grandest ambitions. … The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course the international community is prepared to impose serious consequences.”

Dana Perino (press secretary), 10/26/07 - "The problem is Iran, and Iran has not stepped back from trying to pursue a nuclear weapon...."

Bush, 11/7/07 - “We talked about Iran and the desire to work jointly to convince the Iranian regime to give up their nuclear weapons ambitions, for the sake of peace.”

Cheney, 11/9/07 - "We’re in a position now, clearly, especially when we look at Iran, where it’s very, very important we succeed in our efforts, our national security efforts, to discourage the Iranians from...producing nuclear weapons."

Samuel Bodman (energy secretary), 11/13/07 - "We are convinced that Iran is developing nuclear weapons."

Stephen Hadley (national security adviser), 12/3/07 - commenting on this NIE - “It confirms that we were right to be worried about Iran seeking to develop nuclear weapons”

I’m not going to hold my breath, hoping the Democrats will finally get off their asses and impeach these rat bastards. Although if they don’t, I’ll be hard-pressed to vote for any of them…

Which leads to -

A Modest Proposal

So, say Bush, Cheney and cronies manage to make it to the end of their term without being impeached or killing us all. A miracle, if it happens. Should they look forward to living the rest of their lives in taxpayer-funded splendor?

If they can’t look forward to either a blissful retirement or an extended incarceration at Club Fed, perhaps they would prefer a privatized version of it, self-instituted because they find it necessary to imprison themselves out of fear of the public.

I propose that in lieu of impeachment, the now-Democratic White House and Congress revoke the perks of retirement, including Secret Service protection and pensions for these scumbags.

Note - to all of those who wonder whether I’m crossing the line of legality here, advocating harm to an ex-president, I am most emphatically not. In fact, quite the opposite.

I wish that Bush and Cheney live long, if unhappy, lives - cowering in terror in their personal bunkers, hiding from the world they so thoroughly fucked over.

With plenty of time to reflect on the thousands of American soldiers killed, millions of Iraqis killed or displaced and billions of people being devastated by global warming, lousy trade policies, outsourcing, skyrocketing energy prices, job insecurity, etc, ad nauseum.
