Purpose

We want to spread the awareness of the unique nature of the Pacific Northwest, where people have always blazed their own trails. We hold that it is once again time to consider our commonwealth, to speak for a sustainable future separate from the suicidal path of environmental, spiritual and societal destruction inherent in the rise of the corporate state.

New Year

Well, I’m very concerned with what the new year will bring.
All this talk of war. And threats everywhere.
It’s all bogeymen.
Where’s the proof in any of this?

Saddam has this, Osama’s gonna do that, al Qaeda under every bed. Weapons there’s no evidence for, a Homeland Security agency that only seems like it its real purpose is to issue bogus alerts so as to panic enough people to support whatever Bush wants. Top it off with a little more saber-rattling each day.

I remember this shit from when I was a kid. Communists were the “enemy” then. Bomb-shelter drills, “duck and cover”, fallout shelters, report your pinko neighbor. It’s deja vu all over again.

Why do they want to attack Iraq now? Finish what you started in Afghanistan, idiots! Where’s bin Laden? 15 months and you can’t find a guy who can’t get more than a day or two away from a dialysis machine? He’s not the most mobile guy around, he can’t keep moving at will. Dialysis machines can’t be all that common in the third world. Sometimes I think that the name “Osama bin Laden” is Arabic for “Emmanuel Goldstein”, the fictional bogeyman of “1984”.

All these “neocons” who run the government now were involved in laying out a scenario for attacking Iraq, Iran, Syria and North Korea. And this was a couple years ago, before the 2000 election. I don’t think they have the slightest concern for the safety of the American people, I think it’s a power grab. They don’t give a rat’s ass about democracy, here or elsewhere, it’s just about money, oil and control. As always.

I’m just waiting for that scene from “1984” where they switch enemies in the middle of a pro-war rally. I’m not scared of Saddam or bin Laden, it’s Bush and Cheney who scare the shit out of me…
